Statement by the Director/Registrar of Cooperatives

The Department of Co-operative & Small Business is committed to ensuring that a sustainable and vibrant co-operative movement is upfront in contributing towards national economic growth. This is well articulated in the change vision statement and the goal of the Department.

The 2010 Corporate Plan takes cognition of government's strategic direction to achieve economic stability and sustainable growth by redirecting resources to productive areas. The Department is therefore refocusing its priority to focus on the promotion and establishment of resource based business.

The Department will strengthen partnership and better coordinate its three (3) Divisions with the co-operative apex organization; the National Co-operative Federation so that the co-operative sector is recognized as a significant contributor to national economic growth. With this, the National Co-operative Federation will strengthen its alliance with international forums through its membership with the International Co-operative Alliance.
