Permanent Secretary's Statement
The Ministry came through major changes and associated adjustments in recent years. it became the Ministry of Industry and Trade after the first quarter of 2009 when the Departments of Tourism and Communication were hived off. The Ministry was able to accomplish targets under the 2009 Annual Coperate Plan with some changes in staffing, systems, processes and structures. A lot more reviews and realignments still need to be done.
The staff of the Ministry will have to be more focussed, proactive and committed to ensure that the targets in the 2010 Annual Corporate Plan are achieved.
The major thrusts of the plan are formed from the National Outcomes and Key Performance Indicators of the Roadmap for Democracy and Sustainable Social and Economic Development.
Commitments have been made to increase partnership with stakeholders through consultative engagements. A number of Cabinet Decisions will be implemented including the Revitalisation of Cooperatives, Shanghai Exposition, Savusavu Industrial Zone and Merger of the Prices and Incomes Board and Fair Trading Unit with the Commerce Commission. Strategies have also been designed to improve the performance of the Ministry's Statutory Organisations, Trade Commissions and Departments.
2010 is challenging and it is incumbent on all staff to perform to their utmost.
